Knitting Knockers for Breast Cancer Awareness Saturday August 23, 2008 Knit breasts, courtesy of the Knitting Experience Cafe.My pal Pam Stephan over at About's breast cancer site just let me know about the Boob-a-thon happening at The Knitting Experience Cafe , a shop in Brunswick, Maine. The shop is run by a breast cancer survivor who was given a knit breast as a gift. Since 2007 the shop has been collecting knit prostheses to give to other breast cancer survivors. The shop's efforts were recently featured on WABI television news, which got picked up by CNN Headline News, and the "Boob-a-thon" continues through the end of the month.Chesley, the shop's owner, tells me they accept knit breasts throughout the year, not just in August, but people who drop them by the shop this month will be registered for prizes. She says they accept donations by mail, too, and anyone wanting to be in on the contest needs to include their name and address. If you want to help out y...

RAVELRY

Image
ravelry is a knit and crochet community OH I REALLY NEED TO TAKE SOME BASIC COMPUTER CLASSES. I SIGNED UP TO BE A MEMEBER AT RAVELRY ABOUT A MONTH AGO, DO YOU KNOW WHEN I FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO PUT PICTURES FOR MY PROJECTS ON THERE? TODAY. TODAY I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT. I KNEW IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH FLICKER, BECAUSE ONE OF THE GALS IN MY TUESDAY NIGHT KNIT GROUP IS CONSTANTLY SAYING SHE PUTS HER PICTURES ON HER FLICKER PAGE. SO I SET UP A FLICKER ACCOUNT. WELL, OUR DIGITAL CAMERA WAS STOLEN TWO SUMMERS AGO NOW AND WE HAVE NOT HAD THE MONEY TO REPLACE IT. I FIGURED OUT TODAY THAT I CAN SAVE PICTURES FROM THE INTERNET ONTO THE COMPUTER HERE AT WORK (SINCE MY HUSBAND HOGS OUR LAPTOP) THEN UPLOAD THEM ONTO FLICKER, THEN HAVE THEM TRANSFERED TO MY RAVELRY ACCOUNT. WHY ON EARTH IT HAS TO BE SO COMPLICATED I DONT KNOW, BUT AT LEAST I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT! FORTUNATLY I FOUND MOST OF THE PICTURES OR ONES THAT WHERE SIMILAR TO WHAT I NEEDED ONLINE AND NOW I FINALLY HAVE PICTURES ON M...

Gift Frustration

I love giving gifts, so when a bunch of my co-workers (or their significant other) became pregnant I made some adorable booties for one. They where loved so much, that another co-worker, whom I don’t really know at all said she just had to have some. My list was growing longer by the second, I didn’t really want to make them, but I have a hard time saying no and she offered to pay for them. I have decided to charge her $30. I have yet to tell her this, so hopefully she goes along with it, since she just had to have them. My problem is that when I started to try and make the Just Ducky ( http://www.p2designs.com/images/patterns/set-ducky.html ) set for a co-worker who I do know, I couldn’t get my gage right. The first hat I made was big enough for me to wear, I ripped it out. The second one I made was so small that a preemie would be hard pressed to wear it. I decided to ignore that fact and start on the flipper shaped booties, they where enormous. I gave up, tore everything out and am ...

I LOVE FALL, ITS MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR. SO WHEN MY HUSBAND PROPOSED TO ME IN 2006, I DECIDED OUR WEDDING WOULD BE OUTDOORS IN OCTOBER WITH ALL THE BEAUTIFULL COLORS OF FALL AROUND US. MY MOM WENT CRAZY AND PLANTED ABOUT A MILLION ODD SHAPED PUMKINS FOR DECORATIONS AT THE RECEPTION. THEY WHERE GREAT AND EVERYONE LOVED THEM. AFTER THE RECEPTION I WATCHED MY AUNTS GOING AROUND THE PLACE TELLING THEIR HUSBANDS WHICH ONES TO LOAD INTO THE CARS! I FOUND THIS GREAT FREE PATTERN ON RAVELRY! I thought they were felted and got excited. But no, they were real pumpkins. So, I decided to write a pattern myself. These pumpkins are very easy to make. And if you do make a mistake, felting will erase it. photos: Jordana Paige SIZE ...
