The Handmade Afghans Project

Image
Their objective is to thank those wounded in service to our country. To bring comfort and warmth to our wounded service members, we create handmade afghans. The afghans are sent to ten military hospitals including Walter Reed A.M.C. in Washington, D.C., Landstuhl Regional Hospital in Germany, and Craig Joint Theater Hospital in Afghanistan. You can help by crocheting or knitting 6" x 9" rectangles that will be joined with rectangles made by others to produce twin bed size afghans. Check out their website at: http://www.rectangle6x9.org/

The Ships Project

Image
The Ships Project was founded in October, 2001, to provide handmade "hugs from home" to troops deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, both at sea and on the ground. We have since expanded to include troops involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom. This is an "announcements only" list. We send handmade (knitted/crocheted/sewn) hats, slippers/socks and cool ties to American troops serving in the War on Terror. We'd love to have you join us! To date, we have shipped over 325,800 handmade "hugs from home" to deployed troops! Whether you knit, crochet, sew, or just want to help with postage, we'd love to have you join us. The list is for active members only since it is an "announcements" only list, not a discussion list. Please check out our website at http://www.theshipsproject.com

The Black Cat

Image
My brother had a wonderful little cat named Nala, unfortunatly Nala Died in a house fire two weeks ago and my brother, Matthew, is understandably upset about it. I dont know what I would do if my girls died unexpectedly on me. So I offered to make him a stuffed Nala using a great little free pattern I found on Ravelry.com (Knitted Kitty by Lillian). My first one turned out smaller than the second, which is weird since I used the same yarn for both and the same number of stitches! Anyway, They knit up quick and are cute. I hope my brother likes them!

WHETHER OR NOT THIS STORY IS TRUE, WE SHOULD BE SUPPORTING OUR SOLDIERS FOR EVERYTHING THEY DO FOR US, START WEARING SOMETNING RED EVERY FRIDAY IN HONOR AND SUPPORT OF THEM, I SUGGEST WEARING A SIMPLE RED RIBBON. As a Company, Southwest Airlines is going to support 'RedFridays.' Last week I was in Atlanta , Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind mebeginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed Oneof the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen. Moving thru the terminal was a group of soldiers in theircamos. As they began heading to their gate, everyone (well almost everyone)was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering. When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, beingapplauded and Cheered for, it hit me. I'm not alone. I'm not the onlyred-blooded American who still loves this country and supports our troopsand their families. Of course I immediately stop

Words of Wisdom

"When a business or an individual spends more than it makes, it goes bankrupt. When government does it, it sends you the bill. And when government does it for 40 years, the bill comes in two ways: higher taxes and inflation. Make no mistake about it, inflation is a tax and not by accident." --Ronald Reagan

LIBERTY "The Modern Liberal believes in the supremacy of the state, thereby rejecting the principles of the Declaration and the order of the civil society, in whole or part. For the Modern Liberal, the individual's imperfection and personal pursuits impede the objective of a utopian state. In this, Modern Liberalism promotes what French historian Alexis de Tocqueville described as a soft tyranny, which becomes increasingly more oppressive, potentially leading to a hard tyranny (some form of totalitarianism). As the word 'liberal' is, in its classical meaning, the opposite of authoritarian, it is more accurate, therefore, to characterize the Modern Liberal as a Statist. ... The Statist ... knows that despite his successful usurpations, enough citizens are still skeptical and even distrustful of politicians and government that he cannot force his will all at once. Thus he marches in incremental steps, adjusting his pace as circumstances dictate. Today his pace is more ra
